The Story:

Nicolas Eymerich, Inquisitor: The Plague
1364: Nicolas Eymerich arrives in Carcassonne, the city of the Inquisition, where he is ordered to investigate what happened in a distant village in the South of France, a territory infested with the heresy of the Cathari.
The Catholic Church has lost its influence and power there.
This is evident with the congregation of the Dominicans towards the Cistercians in particular.
Will omened signs have shown themselves.
Eymerich must investigate.
He perceives immediately that truth has been only partially revealed; he then manages to disclose it thanks to his in vestigation within the fortress, and to his acts of strength and brightness. However, There is something more.
The nauseating smell of Satan is well perceived.

That’s why Eymerich takes the power away from the abbot and becomes the Grand Inquisitor, while strange and obscure signs appear on the horizon.
The village is tormented by a terrible presence, appearing on the last solstice of Summer, causing deformed fetuses and propagating the plague.
A plague even more terrible than the one that decimated the known world just 20 years before.
The journey is becoming more and more deadly and dangerous, an infernal nightmare.
Madness and heresy have united, forests are on fire hiding monstrous creatures created by the ancient pagan myths, and the Cistercian castle has turned into an impregnable fortress where large stakes burn.
None of that will stop Eymerich, he will eventually arrive to what is both cause and symptom of this pandemonium.
This is the first chapter of a trilogy that will take Eymerich to combat the most ancient of evil, in the heart of medieval towns full of history and mystery, crossing different spatial and temporal planes.

The Game
Will of steel, heart of stone, intelligence as sharp as a knife and wisdom deep as oblivion.
Eymerich is called to investigate an obscure case, beyond heresy, that reveals a new face of Evil. He must tackle many arduous tasks. He must make many painful choices. He must take on terrible creatures. But his burning determination will overcome the Plague and his worst nightmares.
Nicolas Eymerich The Inquisitor (1320-1399) is the lead character in ten books by Valerio Evangelisti published in Italy (by Mondadori) and around the world.

Nicolas Eymerich: Inquisitor is the first volume in the saga of Interactive Novels about the Inquisitor, and is divided into four acts:

Act I: the Inquisitor – Eymerich is called back to Carcassone by the head of the Inquisition, a problem has arisen. But not everything is said. Demons, heretics and the Plague contaminate the place he is sent to.

Act II: the Village – Obscure tales are unveiled in the plague-ridden village. And the night is filled by the inhuman cries of the demon, who beside him gives birth to creatures beyond all horror.

Act III: the Demon – In a now-dead wood, in the heart of the mountain burning with infernal flames, Eymerich and his brother finally face the Demon.

Act IV: the Abby – But the awful truth is beyond the insurmountable walls of the Abbey, where pyres of bodies are burning, their smoke darkening the sky. Something very, very ancient has taken the form of Satan.

Who Is Eymerich
Nicolas Eymerich, Dominican, was born in Girona, Catalonia, A.D. 1320, and there he returned and died in 1399.

Author of the Directorium Inquisitorum, the text that turned torture and unlimited power of the Sacred Inquisition into law.
His right-hand man is friar Jacinto Corona from Valladolid. Jacinto Corona is the only person able to resist the overwhelming force of Eymerich’s cruel temper and sharp mind.
Nicolas Eymerich’s knowledge of the sacred, profane and blasphemous texts is abundant and his complete lack of respect for human life is well known.
Eymerich has one goal and one goal only: combat Satan.
At all costs.

Eymerich’s story is well documented, as well as is his fury to defend the power of the Catholic Church, especially during a tormented period when the Pope resided in Avignon and the Hundred Years’ War was raging on.
However, many are the black spots in his adventurous life. A life full of wars, intrigues, plague, dead men and dangerous journeys.
It is these gaps that Valerio Evangelisti, author of the books of Nicholas Eymerich, has filled in by narrating the events that cannot be found in history books – and never will be.

There are things that have not to be handed down, facts that history prefers to forget.
Events that would crumble the foundation of rational thinking.
Valerio Evangelisti’s books of Nicholas Eymerich from have taken up this challenge – and we with him.
