PostSubject: Barnes & Noble/Amazon.com banner   Barnes & Noble/Amazon.com banner EmptySat Dec 01, 2012 11:09 pm

When I logged in here at AP tonite at the forum index, I saw a Barnes & Noble and an Amazon advertisement banner. It's really neat that you guys have put this up. Is this the new banner that's supposed to replace Dave's banner (I recall the threads on several AG boards (incl. GB) about it closing its doors) or what?

AP does not advertise and has no advertisement banners. The Interact banners remain in place here at AP.

ABZ....sometimes ads show up on mine too. They are places I frequent . You must go to the Barnes and Amazon web sites for them to show on yours. You have never seen any other banners there before now?

Hats,
Did you realize that Interact has gone out of business? It's a shame that someone with such good customer service as Dave provided had to close his doors, but he just couldn't make a living at it anymore.

As far as ads go, I've never had any pop up here.

Yes, Ang, I do go to Barnes & Nobile and Amazon websites a lot online on my mac. I go there to look for books, games, DVD movies, or computer hardware/software that I buy. This is the first time I saw these banners here at AP tonight, but they're gone now. They showed up when I first logged on tonight.

Yes, the only other banners I saw here before now are thumbnails of PC game box shots (Rhem 4/Gray Matter), the AP banner and the Interact banner (thumbnails, that is).

Thank you so much, Ang, for the explaination of why I saw these banners. Now I understand why I was seeing them. For a minute I thought AP was putting them up maybe for Christmas shoppers here at AP (now that Dec. 1st has arrived).

Lady K yes I know that Dave has gone out of business. Such a loss for us adventureers. We will be taking the Interact banners down.

Ang you are seeing ads on the forum ?

Yes..They are ad banners. I knew You didn't put them there because one was a clothing store. No adventure there. Sometimes it is big fish. It isn't all the time and it isn't the same places. Weird, I know. Neutral

Just for info folks. I don't see them and the Interact link stay I'm afraid.
No idea how to lose them as it was the the hosting company that coded the banner for me.
Sorry.

Not being logged in, below the AP logo I see a Dutch adventisement that changes everytime I refresh, then a banner for Black Mirror 3, then a banner for A New Beginning, then Gray Matter and Rhem 4.
You mean AP doesn't do that? Who's responsible for those ads then? It's been like that for years.

Edit: now that I'm logged in the Dutch banner is gone, but the game banners stay.

Ah, I do see the banners on the main page that you mentioned, HandsFree: Black Mirror 3, Gray Matter, A New Beginning and Rhem 4, but they're not clickable ads. I always thought they were just decorations, and they've become part of the woodwork to me. I see them in Safari and Firefox.

Ah-ha! When I log out from Firefox, there's a banner for Dragons of Atlantis plastered across the top with an active button, and logging out of Safari yields a different ad in the same place, one for Shakes and Fidge, a casual action game. You might want to check with your website host, Gelert, to see what's going on with this.

I believe it is part of the web hosts software. The ads only show what your computer might be interested in and only if you aren't logged on to the forums. AP has nothing to do with them. The game banners are the only ones AP put up.

As hats says, the game banners we put there. Advertisements you see when you are logged off are so called intelligent guesses from the web host.

I am never logged off, so I don't see them except when I do a spring clean and delete my web history, cookies, etc..
