| I hope this is the correct place to put this ! I have these thoughts/review over at Mystery Manor as well . Well , here goes . I've never done this before, at least in this capacity, so bear with me . My thoughts/review of the Razer Orca headphones . I remember being in the market for a new sound card some time ago, & a review for the Razer Barracuda AC-1 sound card catching my eye . The more I read , the more I wanted one . My efforts to find one were fruitless mostly, the AC-1 was no longer being made, & had not for quite some time . I was fortunate enough to find one on Craigslist that was fairly inexpensive, so I jumped at the opportunity . Since then, I've been fortunate enough to become friends with someone that works for Razer, & I have outfitted my rig with Razer gear . I have 2 Razer keyboards, 3 mouse pads, 1 sound card , 1 set of speakers , & 2 mice . Each piece of Razer gear has proven to be excellent, not only in its' quality , but in it's functionality . The fact that Razer gear looks cool doesn't hurt either ! My new Razer Orca headphones are no exception . The Razer Orca headphones, is the latest piece of gear in the audio area of Razer's arsenal . The Orca headphones were , in essence, made for those of us who listen to music , as well as play games . For those of us that play games on line, you're going to cry foul, because the orca headphones do not have a microphone attached . That suited me just fine, as I do not game online. The Orca headphones share a likeness in design to their "cousin" the Carcharias headphones . The similarities end there . The Orca headphones have a wider frequency range, which should make for more sensitivity . Also, the Orca headphones are green. A LOUD neon green ! I do not mean this in a bad way at all, it is exactly the sort of thing that I've come to expect from Razer: cool products that stand out ! Aesthetics aside , headphones should be built well, & sound great . The Razer Orca headphones are both built well, & they sound great ! The build quality first . The ear pieces are 40mm in size , which means , they are a full size ear piece, which should cover your ears quite nicely .The housing for the ear pieces and headband, are made of a solid plastic, it seems, that is quite sturdy . They are built to be used, & used for quite some time ! The ear pieces are lined with what seems to be crushed velvet . At least that's how it feels, because they are very comfortable ! The headband has a soft foam layer on it , that is also very comfortable . The day I got the Orcas, I had them on for over 3 hours, & I had no problems ! When I eventually removed them, I was just as comfortable as before I put them on . No ear or head pain whatsoever ! Well, some ear pain, but that was due to my choice of music . More on that a bit later . The ear pieces are quite adjustable, & will fit virtually everyone's head . The cable is made of braided fiber, which provides flexability, & does not compromise sound quality in any way . The cable contains a 3.5mm mini stereo jack, which is 1.2 meters long . In standard measurement, that's just shy of 4 feet long . The Orca also comes with a 2 meter (6ft 9in) extension cable . There's no need to worry about the cable getting in the way of your keyboard or mouse while you game ! With a 3.5mm plug, you can plug in to your computer's headphone jack, the front panel headphone jack, or your sound card's headphone jack, if you wish that . You can also use the Orca headphones with your ipod, portable cd player, dvd player, Nintendo ds, psp, etc . The Orca headphones can also be used on home stereos with a 3.5mm mini jack . For those stereos that use a 1/4 inch jack, you will need to make a quick trip to your local store for a 3.5mm to 1/4 inch adapter . The packaging for the Razer Orca headphones, is standard for razer . What I mean is , Razer packaging is appealing . Ok, the packaging is damn cool ! I've kept every Razer box box that I could, the exception being my Tarantula keyboard, as I got it without a box . The box is black with a clear plastic window, so you can see what the Orca headphones look like . The box also lists all of the technical specs, along with a brief description from Robert "Razerguy" Krakoff (Razer co-founder & president) .Inside the box, is the Orca heaqdphones themselves , along with the extension cable, a COA , quick start guide, & a Razer sticker . At the end of this , I will post a couple pictures of the Orca headphones & box they came in . Sound quality is what matters , & the Razer Orca headphones do not fall short in that area ! I listened to a few songs on my computer . I use Media Monkey, as I've found it to have the best overall sound quality . That is just me, what you use is entirely up to you ! I listened to a few songs, covering classic rock, metal, country, blues, & Christmas songs, all with the quality of at least 160kbpm . The higher the bit rate, the better . I listened to the following songs : Alice In Chains : No Excuses AC/DC : Rock And Roll Train Tchaikovsky: Swan Lake Trans Siberian Orchestra : Carol Of The Bells Megadeth : Never Walk Alone Dark Tranquility : Final Resistance Dark Funeral : My Funeral Metallica : Wherever I May Roam Evanescense : Bring Me To Life John Lee Hooker : Boom Boom Boom Cab Calloway : Minnie The Moocher Fear Factory : Fear Campaign Children Of Bodom : Needled 24/7 Jason Aldean : She's Country Jamie Johnson : In Color Katy Perry : Hot And Cold (my daughter loves her !) Pink : Don't Let Me Get Me In every song I listened to , highs sounded like highs, mids sounded like mids . To me , the bass was just right , just the right amount of thump, not boomy at all . I could feel the bass , as well as hear it . If you close your eyes & consentrate on the music, you will better understand what I'm trying to say . Now, the music is all well and good, but we're gamers as well, are we not ? I plugged my Orca headphones in, And played for about an hour each with Crysis, Dracula 3 : Path Of The Dragon , The Lost Crown , Icewind Dale , & Memento Mori . The sound was quite clear , I heard what I was supposed to hear . I could hear my enemies coming, & I could hear every background noise . Explosions sounded nice and large, like an explosion should . That creak on the stairs, sounded like a creak on the stairs . That creepy water drip, sounded like a creepy water drip . Hopefully, you understand what I'm driving at ! I was very happy with how the Orca headphones sounded in my games ! The Razer Orca headphones are available now, for $59.99 at the razer web site : www.razerzone.com . At the time I ordered my set, I got a $5 discount (not sure how that happened, but I'm not complaining !) , and free shipping . I am very pleased with my razer Orca headphones, they are built well, sound great, & are priced right ! For those of us out there, that are looking for a balance of great gaming & music headphones, you will be quite happy with Razer Orca headphones ! Hope you enjoyed this thought/review ! On a side note, I picked up my daughter from school the day I got my Orca headphones . I pulled them out of the box, she snatched them out of my hands, & ran in to her bedroom, saying "they're mine now ! " . Maybe I'll have to get her a set for Christmas ! Here are a couple of pictures : | |

| That green is very pretty. Do they glow in the dark ? They look like they might. I don't use headphones because I've never found any that were comfortable or fit right. But I very often have trouble hearing what is said or noises in the games or music for that matter because of other noises around the house.
Anyway your new headphones look really cool. And it sounds like you are getting really good quality sound from them. Do you have to turn the volume up loud to get all the sounds like the creaking steps and crickets and understandable words?
I like to feel the bass too when I listen to music.

| No, Hats, they don't glow in the dark . My wife asked me that very same thing ! I don't have to crank up the volume too loud , half way is usually enough . My headphones do have some noise canceling abilities. I also find that having my headphones on helps me to concentrate on my game or music more , knowing I have other things going on in the house .
Thanks for the compliments Hats !!!

| Blocking out some outside noise and helping to concentrate on games would definetly be a plus.

| It does help . After I put my headphones on, you have to either yell , or stand next to me , to get my attention . | |

| Take the plunge , & become a member of the Cult of Razer ! As of now , the Razer web site is the only place to get the Orca headphones . I suspect that will change though before too long ! | |

| I became a member of the cult a year or so ago . My first piece of Razer gear , was the Barracuda AC-1 sound card . Now, I have the Mamba (my main mouse) , the DeathAdder (my backup mouse), Exact Mat , Vespula , & Goliathus mouse pad (speed edition . I'm using it now) , Mako speakers (excellent speakers !) , Lycosa keyboard (main keyboard) , Tarantula keyboard (my backup) , & the Orca headphones . I've also been fortunate enough to make a friend, who works for Razer .
I don't think it's odd at all Ang, using the Diamondback on your Win 98 machine ! I've heard goood things about the Megalodons ! My daughter wants the Moray ear phones for her birthday . Ready for odd Ang ? I use all of my Razer gear, using Vista !

| Ang I don't think it is odd at all. Is the mouse you are using on your 98 a smaller mouse or larger ?
All these names of mice, keyboards and all are really cool.

| Ang that is one cool looking mouse Is that thing in the dip just a light or is it a scroller ? By slippery do you mean it's flat on the bottom and doesn't stick when you move it ? hatshepsut | |

| Thanks, Hats ! That's the biggest portion of my Razer gear, sort of . Besides the pics, I have a DeathAdder mouse, the Barracuda AC-1 sound card (currently using it ) , Tarantula keyboard, ExactMat mouse pad, & Vespula mouse pad . My daughter wants Razer ear buds for her birthday, so I may just get them for her . Not sure what my next piece of Razer gear will be . Besides the BlackWidow keyboard, maybe the Imperator mouse . | |

| I really like the names of all this gear, I like the looks too. DeathAdder mouse is very catchy. How does it all stand up performance wise?

| That sort of depends on what you're talking about Hats . The DeathAdder would make a great first gaming mouse ! I used it for about 4 months before I got my Mamba . I play , besides adventures , rpg & fps games . I liked my DeathAdder a lot, it performed admirably ! There are 2, actually , 3 versions, of the DeathAdder . The original was 1800 dpi . Version 2 (the current version) , reaches 3500 dpi .The third is 3500 dpi as well, but it's made for left handers . Should you choose a DeathAdder Hats, I would also recommend a gaming mouse pad . Razer has several .
I would recommend a Death Adder with either a Sphex mpuse pad , a Goliathus (speed edition) mouse pad, or a Destructor mouse pad . Her ethey are :
DeathAdder : http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16826153055
Sphex : http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16826999063
Goliathus : http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16826999066
Destructor : http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16826999075
Here's a couple of reviews , that could explain a DeathAdder , probably better than I could . All I could turn up , were reviews for the 1800 dpi version :

| Thank you Faust. What I was talking about performance wise was that my old mouse on my 98 is starting to stick and to move slowly. I've worked on it several times but it's performance hasn't improved. I play all my older games on the 98 so I need a good performing mouse with some of those games.

| Not a problem Hats ! You could use the DeathAdder, however, since the system requirements are for XP or above, driver install would probably not be possible . The DA would still perform well though , just plug and play . It almost sounds as though your mouse is about to expire, so a new mouse may be needed . Mouse performance in games depends to an extent on the game's individual settings , but mostly depends on the mouse, & the surface the mouse is used on . A good quality mouse pad will make a difference as well . | |
