PostSubject: Slip Space The Burma Shave Analogy   Slip Space The Burma Shave Analogy EmptyMon Jun 20, 2011 5:49 pm

If you haven't played The Burma Shave Analogy yet you can now purchase it from the website for $9.99.
The Burma-Shave Analogy is the creation of the independent developer Dan Markosian.

Also take a few minutes to look at the website where you will find a gallery of pictures and other interesting things.

You can find the website
Here

The Story:

In the opening animation, the player discovers that they have involuntarily become an agent of the Strategic Intelligence Alliance and have secretly received a brain implant.
The SIA is dealing with the potential threat posed by a disappearing, reappearing building that bears the sign: "The Golden Age of Advertising".
Using the sign as a clue, an eccentric SIA researcher at the Institute of Worst-Case Studies applies a proprietary data-mining technique known as Implosive Paranoia Modeling and traces the phenomenon to an obscure scientist, Webster Wotsletter. Further, the modeling technique accurately predicts the location where the building will next appear.
The player, now an agent of the SIA, is sent there.
In fact, the building is a temporal-dimension transporter. Upon entering it, the player should note the name "Uber" on the door.
Once inside, the player is introduced to the theory of shifting temporal perception (the Burma-Shave Analogy), and learns a bit about Webster's career and family. Curiously, his five sons, Royal, Silo, Tat, Uber and Vkoda, were all born at precisely the same instant. Apparently, "The Golden Age of Advertising" is the personal transporter of Webster's son Uber.
From here the player is transported to the Shave, the central location of the adventure and the home base of Webster and his sons. In the Shave, the player must solve large integrated puzzles to gain access to the various transporters of the remaining sons. The player uses these transporters to travel to other puzzle environments.

An excellent game from this Indie developer at an excellent price. I hope Slip Space did well for Dan so he will make another as he has a special talent for this kind of game.

If this game is not about shaving I'd like to get it next month. Will it still be $10 in July?

Having checked out the screenshots on the website you linked to Hat, I can see it's more of an alien kind of game (right up my alley) rather than a guy-having-to/wanting-to shave kind of game.

Why, may I ask, is this game have Burma Shave Analogy as part of its title? I must understand this in case Mom questions why I'd want to buy it (she's in charge of our paypal acc't).

Why does this game have the "Burma Shave" as part of the title ? How about , because the developer wanted to ! Maybe he thought the title sounded cool . Ask , & maybe he will say why ?

If you read the content on the games web site that Hats linked too, all is explained as to why the developer chose that as his analogy

Quote :
Script for The Burma-Shave Analogy
Our perception of reality can be compared to a clever advertising practice originated by the marketers of Burma Shave in the mid 20s. A single message was split into smaller fragments presented on a number of signs posted a considerable distance apart along an interstate highway.

For the purpose of our analogy, consider the messages the full extent of perceived reality. The highway, surrounding landscape and all other elements beyond the signs represent a transcendent reality beyond perception. Thus each sign is a perceptual unit-of-now. So among a nearly infinite number of absolute units-of-now, a very small set are perceived and as those units are pasted together into a coherent message, a reality is created.

How many years is the whole course? Are you going FT or PT? Internet courses or in-class, on-campus?

Are you getting any hands-on experience? If so, where? How many hours of hands-on?

I just d/l Slip Space, installed it on my Acer (which, if you guys may recall, boasts Win 7) tested the game a few minutes following the intro sequence. The game plays beautifully on my Acer.

I go to school 3 days a week , 5 hours a day . It's what the school requires . That's on-campus time , & I have access to my classes here at home . I should graduate by the middle of October . There are things at school we can do that are hands on . As far as the job market though , that will come after school . A guy on my softball team said he may be able to get me on where he works .

I'm still playing Sherlock Holmes : The Awakened . I'm going to play Sherlock Holmes : Nemesis next .

How are you liking The Awakened? I am guessing because you already want to play vs Arsene Lupin that you are enjoying the play.

PostSubject: New review for Slip Space   Slip Space The Burma Shave Analogy EmptyWed Aug 10, 2011 2:10 pm

Adventure Lantern and Adventure Classic Gaming have posted new reviews for Slip Space.
Both of these came out-of-the-blue. Perhaps they were inspired by this Italian review from Adventure's Planet.
The game is only available at slipspacegame.net
