Good question Gelert. My guess would be that with the huge size , the massive production costs, marketing and packaging that it will be more than normal these days and maybe more than we have seen since the mid 90's when adventure games were going from $35 to $60. Back then I remember paying $60 for the Win 95 version of Phantasmagoria and $56 for GK2: The Beast Within. Doesn't matter to me as I am buying it no matter what. Even if it does have dying in it I am a sucker for Sci Fi. One thing I hope is, that with the 8 DVD-DL's that there isn't any disk swapping. Better yet it would be nice if a full install could be chosen for those with enough hard drive space. Wouldn't 8 DL's be about 69 GB's? Would that be the biggest adventure game ever or what?

I think games have always cost more in the UK. Riven was one of the first Adventure games I bought (soon after it came out), and it cost me £50 from the now, no longer existent (in the UK), Electronics Boutique. Adventure games here still tend to retail in high street stores at £30 on first release. They're sometimes cheaper by a few £'s online though, and games from independent developers, bought directly are, of course, at the same price as anyone pays.

On that subject, I bet this will surprise you. Rhiannon was made by Arberth Studios, in Narberth, just a few miles from me. The two game retailers (possibly, the only two), in South Wales, Game and Gamestation, haven't ever stocked it to my knowledge. I've asked numerous times. I never got around to asking Noel Bruton if this was definitely the case in all such stores, although I was talking with him in the early stages of the project, when he asked my opinion on marketing routes. I even suggested getting going a bit of a press launch with local newspapers reporting on the game being developed by a few dedicated individuals in a local town, and, perhaps, a radio appearance, or one on regional T.V.. I'm not aware of anything of that sort ever happening though. Perhaps, because it was their first game, and they had so much on their hands, they thought it too much hoo-ha at the time. I really think they should sort out something of that ilk for Coven though.

Indeed, I wonder if Coven will be on sale in stores locally. It's really quite ridiculous that this area, which is the region in which 50% of the Mabinogion stories are based, doesn't have for sale in its stores a game which has a story based on the tales of the Mabinogi. I even asked in specialist Welsh language shops, but nobody around here (radius 60 miles), has even heard of the Rhiannon game. I know why, I suppose. It's because UK stores still believe that Adventure games don't exist, and that everyone wants FPS and racing games. The Sherlock Holmes games and a few others appear, but, of all games that ought to have been on sale in this region, Rhiannon certainly should have been. Believe me, it would have sold well locally. Anyway ......... I digress. scratch

Fantastic news. The trailer is awesome. With eight DVD's the game has to be huge. I'm guessing the game will be a little more than what we have been paying but it looks like it will be worth every penny.

Indeed 8 DVDs is a lot. I guess the video quality will be very good.

Does anyone remember when this project was started?

Igor

Those will be "8 Double Density Disks" according to the DarkStar team. I am assuming that they will be DVD-DL Disks which would make the game even bigger. It just has to be the biggest adventure game ever made maybe of all genres. Anyone else know of ANY game that could compete with 8 Dual Layered DVD's?

GreyFuss I'm not quite sure what the dual layered means. Can you explain that please.

Regular CD's hold about 700MB of information. Regular DVD's hold about 4.7GB's of information. A DVD-DL (Dual Layer) can hold around 8.5GB's of information. Of course to play the DVD-DL disks you have to have DVD player that is compatible with them. So if DarkStar indeed is coming on 8 Dual Layered DVD's and you would like to play the game, now is the time to check if you have a player that is capable of playing these disks.

Now mind you that it is I who is interpreting that what the developer means by "8 Double Density Disks" is DVD-DL's as I am not sure there are any other Double Density disks. If anyone knows differently please post here, I have been wrong before.......no really...I have
