Internet Censorship Bill Empty
PostSubject: Internet Censorship Bill   Internet Censorship Bill EmptyTue Nov 29, 2011 3:42 am

MaG, I just got this in my school's academic email, and I don't want this law to be passed. Can you help, please?

Thanks.

More info:
rotect IP" and "SOPA") that would let the government or any corporation censor the internet, using the same DNS-blocking techniques as Iran or China.

More here: link removed

The bills are ostensibly to stop copyright and trademark infringement, but they won't. Instead-- they'll let the government shut down almost any social media website, since any site can be shut down just for audio, video, text, or even *links* posted by its users. Any corporations will have the power to bankrupt any website or organization by cutting it off from payments, advertising and donations-- without so much as a court order.

The law is being pushed by some of the strongest lobbies in Washington, it has broad bipartisan support, and it's likely to pass in some form. I've been active against it: next week I'll be participating in a nationwide call-in day. Can you join me, and help me spread the word by forwarding this email?

Thanks!

Here are two great op-eds about the bills, followed by links to the bill text:

MaG may read AP but I bet if you posted it at GameBoomers she would probably read it faster. Just a thought.

Ooo - missed deleting MaG's name from this post. Anyway, I did post this on GB but BET deleted it. She said the post was against the GB rules.

ABZ 'sighs' I don't know if Mag reads this forum or not irregardless I doubt that she would help you at GB. GB is an adventure game forum they are not political nor do they endorse politics. AP is an adventure game forum we also don't encourage politics nor do we endorse politics. Political views are a matter of personal opinion, they are neither right or wrong. With that said you would probably be better served to write your Congressman, Senator and the Speaker of the House and tell them your feelings. Use your vote in Nov. to retire the politicians who are responsible.

I am going to leave this thread open while I give it some more thought. Be for warned if I see any harassing, serious arguing or unpleasantness I will lock the thread.

I agee with hats. Also, unusually for me, with the decision of the other website. Phew! I need a lie down.

I'm afraid such lobbying is not welcome here AlienBZ. Also, this is a UK website and so, as such, until the same happens here (which it may), it is hardly relevant.

I have edited your post AlienBZ.

Regards.

Gelert.
