Longmeadow Barn Buddies Empty
PostSubject: Longmeadow Barn Buddies   Longmeadow Barn Buddies EmptySun Dec 18, 2011 10:15 pm

I had to get up at 4:00 am yesterday morning (or BEFORE the *ss-crack of dawn, as I put it!) and head down to Longmeadow. I'm STILL not warm! I got down to Longmeadow right at 5:00 am. Amanda is our Ranch manager and her husband Jeff was there to help too, so the three of us loaded up 2 chickens, 1 duck, 1 Pot Bellied pig, 2 sheep, a goat, a llama and a miniature horse. All the animals except for the llama, sheep and mini were in crates. Bailey the duck didn't fit in the horse trailer with the others, so she rode in the back seat of the pickup with me. We rolled out right at 6:00 am. The temp dropped down to 22° right at sunrise on our way in. It was about a 50 minute drive and halfway there Bailey shot out a big blast of duck poop which escaped the cage door! We had a bunch of towels, so were able to clean it up fairly well. Of course she quacked the entire way down there and it stunk like mad.

When we got to the TV station, we met up with the other volunteers and got everyone out of the horse trailer and their cages. We then stood around in the bone-freezing cold for 45 minutes for the 5 minute segment. I asked if I should take off my big heavy coat as I would look like a big bear, but the PR lady said it was just too cold. Amanda had about 10 layers on under her Longmeadow sweatshirt! Everyone else kept their coats on too. Hubby was watching and he said I did look like a barrel standing there with my sheep! I'm the one holding Pepe, the darker colored sheep. Amanda had asked me to take him as he is so big and strong and has a tendency to bolt. But he stood there like a perfect gentleman. You can see me warm my hands on his wool several times!
