Captain Morgane uses a DRM scheme called StarForce aka !!!#*&!!!!. For this reason the game stays unopened until some point in the future when I can play it 'properly.' Evil or Very Mad

Anna who?
Sorry, GreyFuss, I couldn't help it!

What I really want to post is that I'm playing Syberia again, one of my three all-time favorites! However, this is a chopped-up version in three parts. I'm playing Syberia - Part 1 right now. It's like the original almost, but with some small differences in the game play, not the story. It is those differences that I am curious about, although playing Kate again is a delight!
Game is at Big Fish Games for anyone who is interested.

By the way, many thanks Camaro for writing that "digital versatile disc" is a DVD because I have been wondering for many years what that "V" stood for! I had a fair idea of the 2 "D"s, but hadn't a clue for that middle letter.
At least you were wondering, for me it turns out I had it all wrong. A year or two or three before I had a PC with a DVD drive as a media storage device I, like many others I suppose , purchased a DVD player in order to rent and watch movies on the TV screen. Based on that I always assumed that DVD meant Digital Video Disc. Live and learn.

Actually, Camaro, I now think that DVD stands for both depending on how the disc is used. If used in a DVD player it would be a Digital Video Disc because you need to connect the player to a TV. When the DVD is used with a computer it becomes a Digital Versatile Disc. I guess you could say it has been upgraded. Technology marches on!

Thanks for the info, MindySue - I'll remember that (you've just taught me some techy-stuff). cheers

It's the same thing like bying a second hand game. The publisher doesn't earn anything. And they can't do anything about that (thank God).

But they can and are doing it already! New games can have a steam key on disk or otherwise require the player to go through some activiation server. And it's not made clear what they are checking there and what you can and cannot do. I bought Next Big Thing on disk but won't play it because I refuse to go along with this. It's said Yesterday, Captian Morgane, Rockin Dead and the TellTale disks also have that. I have stopped buying games because of this (except from Gog).

If this happens, I think I might stop buying all these latest releases and dive into my old games/new releses currently residing at our house/my HDD and play these. Bigger excuse to overcome all the reasons that I cannot drive to the local coffee shops with laptops in order to game on the go.

Colpet

Corrosion does not have any dead ends unless you didn't install the patch. I enjoyed the game very much, just remember to put yourself in the Sheriffs shoes. He suddenly finds himself in this basement knowing nothing. It is up to you, the player, to piece together a story using only what you discover. For Dan Peaches first game I think he did a very good job and I would hope he takes what he has learned and apply it to another game. He, like us, loves the first person perspective. I particulary loved the first big puzzle
Spoiler:

Speaking of Print Screen, it is the Rhem games that I wear that key out with.

Correction here: The name is Dan Peach (I have it burned in my memory after my Dan Patch mistake Embarassed ) So it should be: Dan Peach's first game.
By the way, I would probably have gone on calling him Dan Patch forever if GreyFuss hadn't corrected me!

I need to pay more attention Smile

Seriously though, has anyone posted their thoughts here as to the ending of CCW? Easy enough to just walk away but somehow that doesn't feel right. silent

I had a tough time with Rhiannon. I had to keep refering to a walkthrough to make progress. I loved the graphics and atmosphere though. I guess my membership to mensa is still on permanent hold, heh.

Finished Secret Files 3

Returned to Playing The Five Cores...have been stuck on a color puzzle for a couple of days...

Testament of Sherlock Holmes arrived so I put Five Cores on hold and got into Sherlock. So far I am quite enjoying it. Reminds me more of Awakened (my favorite) than it does Nemesis (Lupin) or Ripper.

I got a copy of Testament of Sherlock Holmes from Dave @ Interact myself . Due to not having a net connection on my desktop (I'm using my smartphone for this) , I'll have to wait to play Testament . Silly drm , but that is another animal . In the interim , I am going to replay the Sherlock series from Awakened to Jack the Ripper .

Evil or Very Mad I hadn't heard about the DRM. Is that on the Focus release?
I wonder if the Atlus release will be DRM free.

EDIT: My mistake, Atlus isn't releasing a PC copy.
DRM, such a shame, the main reason I haven't bought Diablo 3.

I am playing Black Mirro r 2 again. I forgot that I bought them as a digital download and so downloaded both of them again on this computer and decided to try them again. with my poor memory, they are almost like playing a new game.

The drm is online activation of the game . The same reason , along with a couple others , is why I,will not get Diablo 3 myself . If I want to play Testament , I'm going to have to take my computer to my Dad's house so I can activate Testament .

The online activation is for the Focus version

After playing mostly casual games this year, I bought Sherlock Holmes vs. Arsene Lupin on sale at BigFish. I like having the choice to play it in first person. I'm enjoying it so much, I bought the next game SH vs. Jack the Ripper.

Did you also play Sherlock Holmes The Awkened Colpet. If not give it a try in First person....we have to do something to get you out from under the mind numbing spell of Casu....Kazzu....Casa........I can't even say the name.

Did you finish The Five Cores? I just can't get by the colored tree age. I must be missing something but I will plod on since its been so long since a game of this type has appeared.

I played the first Sherlock - Mystery of the Mummy, but not the Awakened. Would you recommend it? I can get it at BigFish too.
I'm saving the 5 Cores for a few days off (holiday time).

Sorry...thought you had already played The Five Cores

Actually I rate the last 4 Sherlock games like this...

The Awakened
Vs Arsene Lupin (Nemesis)
Testament
Jack the Ripper

I know how you are not a big fan of horror so Arsene Lupin (Nemesis) is your best bet especially since you like puzzles/problem solving/conumdrums. The other 3 games all have horror asociated with them and all of them have NPC's to interact with but they are detective games so they would have to be there.

I am really surprised that you haven't jumped on playing The Five Cores since its been so long for you and this type of non horror first person fantasy game.

I hope you noticed Adreas's list of upcoming first person games posted over at AG. Some of these look to have some keyboard controls but a lot of them are right up our alley.
