| I just completed Machinarium, which I played with my 6 y.o. daughter. Of course I had to solve the more complex puzzles, but she really felt as part of the "solving team" and she had a really great time The game worked exceedingly well for a number of reasons, including the charming visuals, the difficulty level and, very important, the complete lack of dialogue or text. She doesn't speak any English, so that's a barrier with many games. Does anyone have suggestions for further playing - preferrably with little or no requirements for understanding English*, and also preferrably with a slightly weird'n'wacky style? (* I don't mind translating while we're playing - we played Drawn together and it worked pretty well - I just feel that it's a more engrossing experience without the language barrier) | |

| Yes, sorry, I forgot to mention that fact Are there any other good options, apart from the Samorost titles? | |

| Alchemia is a good little puzzle driven game. I don't think there's any speaking in it. There is a built in hint system, I think there is a German version. The puzzles aren't to hard but not to easy either. You can try the first chapter Here

| Alchemia is good and has had a boxed retail release in the UK.
Full Pipe is also good. Info and download link HERE.
Edit ........ Not sure if Full Pipe is still available. | |

| Thanks for the input, both of you! I really hope to be able to inspire her to play adventure games on her own at some point. For a trip down nostalgia lane we played an hour or so of Secret of Monkey Island on the Amiga, but too many of the jokes and references fell flat Still, she seemed pretty interested, so I'm optimistic. | |

| Axel & Pixel is another Samorast clone that really fits the demanded profile. Curse of Enchantia has almost no writings, characters communicate through icons, very nice if you can put up with the clumsy interface, and you can try a Danish adventure like Blackout | |

| 'Blackout' is good and worth playing for the animation alone. | |

| Thanks for the additional suggestions. Axel & Pixel looks terrific but as far as I can tell it's X360 only? I need something that will run on a pc. Ah, Curse of Enchantia It's been aeons since I played it on my Amiga. I remember it having some fairly weird puzzles but being fun. It should fit the bill. As for Blackout, I bought it when it came out (need to support the national gaming industry!). It was certainly atmospheric, but I recall the gaming experience as frustrating - too many times where you wandered aimlessly about looking for an incident that would propel the story forward. And unskippable dialogue scenes, too, I think. Ugh. But thanks for the reminder - the theme is fairly "grown up", but I think I'll dust off (literally ) my copy and give it a spin when my daughter's not around. | |

| If you all are talking about the same Blackout that I played through (at least most of it), then IMO it might be a bit too creepy for a 6 year old. I remember there being some kind of disturbing graphics the deeper into the game I got including some heads floating in jars, etc.
This game might also be too dark for a young kid to sit through, and they only have the first two chapters out, but 'The Dream Machine' is supposed to be pretty cool. I haven't played through it yet, but I certainly plan to.
