Indeed it would be, GF! It was such a pretty place to explore.

Even though I haven't made it to Serenia yet I am currently replaying Myst IV Revelations so the screenshot was familiar.

I had just found out about it too.

BTW does anyone know how to capture a screen from a game that uses 256 colors? If I use the printscreen button the colors are all distorted.

Interesting screenshot you posted. It reminds me of a scene from Lapland I think in the Agon series.

There's a review of Black Sails at AdventurArchiv (it got 69%) http://www.adventurearchiv.de/b/blacksailsreviewd.htm, where I got the pictures, you can use a translation program like FoxLingo.

There are at least two ways to capture screens of old Windows games (dos games are easily captured with the built-in function of dosbox)
1) install DirectX SDK, it comes with a utility to enable correct captures of old DirectDraw games with PrintScreen key (I took screenshots of Duckman this way)
2) use a virtual machine and capture the window displaying the game. The screenshot will be 16 million colors but you can use Gimp to decrease them to 256. (I took screenshots of Dementia this way)
Since you probably need an old version of Windows to play old games, solution 2 is the most feasible
Anyway I haven't tried other programs like Fraps, so it's worth a try.
By the way, my site is back on line (with a brand-new Hall of Fame), so I would be glad if you want to post a trivia there

Most picture viewers are able to do screen capture . Finding one for use in an older machine (Win 95, Win 98), is a bit of a task though . Not sure why a virtual machine would be needed for screen capture , but hey , as long as it works for you , that's all that matters .

That's why:

You can always capture screenshots this way (it's just a window of your desktop), whereas old games that use DirectDraw with a 256 colors palette have completely wrong colors or even black screens in captured images because many programs (and even the OS) cannot access the palette and/or the framebuffer correctly

I think K515.....er...AlienBZ might have some ideas on this subject since she does a lot of screen captures to make her comic books

HandsFree...that is one of those screenshots that looks so familiar and yet it does not. Interested in knowing what it may be.
