Outside Hawk Manor

Good day fellow gamers. I just wanted to drop off these pics of the back of Hawk Manor outside the Shed and Garage. The buildings and most of the props were donated by Dryjack a very talented artist from ShareCG. Hope you like them

Hi GreyFuss, yes I love doing graphics the most. I'm not looking forward to the coding part of the game, but I'm going with the Wintermute engine and those guys are great for helping out plus the code they use is a lot easier. So far I've finished the front ouside, inside hallway upstairs and down, dining room, living room, kitchen, basement, attic, bathroom, 4 bedrooms, offices, outside shed, garage and some items. And that is only scratching the surface. I still have a ton of graphics to do yet plus voices and sounds. I think it's a lot bigger than Roanoke and hopefully a lot better. Glad you like the pics

Thank you Win and Hats, glad you like the pics. I finished up the outside of the manor, now I've got to finish the inside of the shed and garage. Which I'll work on today

I was playing around with the lights in Daz last night and I love the effects I was getting from them. If I decide to do the lost talisman of RaJa it is going to make for some creepy atmospheres. I wish I could just snap my fingers and all my games and movies are done. So much work to do, I think if I ever win the lottery, I'll open up a game and mach movie company.

Handsfree, not sure what the problem could be so I don't know how to fix it. But when you click on Hawk Manor Pics the pictures should be right there on the screen. I know that when I'm logged out I can't click on the link, sorry I don't know what to tell you. First time I posted in an area closed off to the public but this part of the forum I posted them, anyone can access. I posted them on my site because I didn't want to put them on Imageshack. Maybe Gelert can help

So you are doing all the art first and the importing/scripting later? Or do you make a background when you're at the point in the game that needs it?

Actually Handsfree, I do everything first, art, voices etc. Then put it altogether in the engine. I haven't decided on a game engine yet but I'm seriously considering Wintermute and they requite that all your graphics be in it's own folder. Only problem is I'm not very good at coding, but from what I've seen of code at WME I should do alright, plus at WME they're very helpful and I talked to Mnemonic a lot.

My last game was a nightmare because that P&C engine was more headaches than it was worth. Well it looks like breakfast is on the table so I'm off. Take care for now

Thank you GreyFuss, glad you like the pics. You'd be surprised what you are capable of once you get started. I never thought I could make a game either and I had to start from scratch.

I think the first thing people should do before deciding if they want to get into game making is grab a game engine and do the tutorials, because the game engine is the power behind any game. The best and most stable engines out there right now is Wintermute and Adventure Game Studios which are free. If you decide yes game making is for me, then you need a story. What I do first is write up a bunch of cliff notes and then I write the story around those. While writing I put myself into the story, for instance when Jemma steps inside Hawk Manor I am there, then I look around and think ok what do I want to do here. You'd be surprised how everything will just flow through your mind

Then when your story is written, I start by making the big scenes, like the inside of buildings, scenery etc. Then I create the people, then after that the props and interactive objects that go into the game. And usually last I do the voices, sounds and any music I may use. Any movies or music can be your choice of order, actually any order can be your choice, but first start with learning the engine because that's what's going to be the biggest headache, actually it is for me, you may be different.

So there it is folks a crash course in game making, hope you find it helpful. I'd love to see more independent game makers, we need all we can get. Take care everyone and happy gaming or creating

Now this is exactly why I couldn't handle it ...reading, tutorials, final exams, grounded when my grades are bad...I used to love reading, creating and learning something new...I have lost the patience for that. So I will just sit back and enjoy all the efforts of those who still have want to create.
